Bike Loan Program
The Bike Loan program was started in 2020 and now has more than 300 bicycles on loan to needy girls in the Sundar-Haraincha municipality. The Bike Loan program helps increase student attendance and fosters independence as it allows them additional time in the day to take on before or after school jobs to raise money for their families. This relieves the family financial pressure and, in turn, allows the student to remain at school for higher grades.
We analyzed the Bike Loan recipient’s daily attendance records at each school where we loan bicycles. We reviewed the six months attendance before the Bike Loan with the six months attendance after the Bike Loan. We found that the average attendance for the Bike Loan recipient increased by more than 10%. Better attendance means better grades and a better attitude towards school.
