Bike Loan Program Initiated

In 2020 My 100 Percent approved the loan of 4 bicycles to students of the Stay in School Nepal program. These students had to walk almost one hour each way to their schools every day. This was creating conflicts for these students for their attendance at school as well as participating in before and after school jobs to make money for the families.

Through 2021 Civic Independence Development we met with bicycle importers and other retail stores about the bulk purchase of up to 25 bicycles for use by our students. The Bike Loan program helps increase student attendance and fosters independence as it allows them additional time in the day to take on before or after school jobs to raise money for their families. This relieves the family financial pressure and, in turn, allows the student to remain at school for higher grades. During an update meeting with the Mayor and Council of Municipality of Sundar-Haraincha our program manager Arjun Guragain indicated that we would be creating a Bike Loan Program for our Stay in School students. All 100 students of the Stay in School Program reside within the Municipality.

Social Welfare Council

The Social Welfare Council (SWC) is the government agency that oversees all foreign charity supported programs to control foreign currency flows and programs that can operate in Nepal. On December 17, 2021 the SWC approved the creation of the Bike Loan Program to be funded by My 100 Percent and the Municipality and managed by CID.

After receiving approval My 100 Percent has forwarded the initial deposit to purchase up to 175 bicycles and management of CID is interviewing students, creating an enrollment for the Bike Loan Program and targeting a launch of May, 2022 for the first loans of bicycles to students in Sundar-Haraincha.
